I was a triathlete. Then after a race, a disk in my spine ruptured and I didn’t know if I’d ever walk—much less race—again. After multiple surgeries and physical therapy, I’m back on my feet but my goals have changed. While I’d love to get back to competitive sports, I understand that my life has changed. My mission has changed. I know what it’s like to be a patient and that’s changed the way I am as a doctor.
“I understand how it feels to be injured“
Too often the tunnel vision we develop in medicine through sub-specialization does not allow us to see the patient, just the problem. I have learned this by being the injured patient, and now I want to use this experience to improve my professional performance as a physician.
I am no longer racing triathlons, but I am back to being an active participant in my children’s many activities – including coaching their baseball, soccer and lacrosse youth teams. I am also an avid swimmer where I compete as a Master’s level swimmer with the Naval Academy club team. I enjoy supporting the many great organizations in our community.
I live in Annapolis with my wife, three children and new puppy, and I understand how it feels to be injured. I look forward to working with you to treat your injury and find ways to help you maximize your performance in life and the all activities that you enjoy.
